tITLE: “What is our Civic Responsibility to Our Environment?”
In the “What is Our Civic Responsibility to Our Environment” expedition, fourth and fifth grade students explored the science of landfills, the local waste-to-energy facility, recycling, and pollution. Students became aware of their role in reducing the negative impact waste creates. The expedition addressed many of the key science standards among other subjects for fourth and fifth grade including the water cycle, renewable and non-renewable resources, energy transformation, pollution, and recycling, while also offering them a pathway to make positive changes to their community. This allowed our students to become active citizens for change. During the course of the expedition students learned about the problem of pollution and grappled with possible solutions. The expedition consisted of in-depth investigations as to where our waste goes, and focused on recycling efforts and reducing waste.
