bay county stee field landfill
JOURNAL ENTRY #1 :2/27/2014
The 4th and 5th grade field trip to the Steelfield Landfill was INCREDIBLE. My class and I learned things we never knew before. The landfill was made in 1986. It took 45 minutes to reach the Landfill. When we made it to the landfill, my class was staring in awe at an ENORMOUS TRASH MOUNTAIN. It was 140 feet tall and 190 feet above sea level. We saw tractors and bulldozers on the mountain of trash. I was shocked the trash mountain did NOT smell BAD. The amazing part is that if you stand at the top of the trash mountain, you could see the AIRPORT, which is 5 MILES away from the Steelfield landfill. I was very impressed, and I know I will go back to the STEELFIELD LANDFILL.

BAY COUNTY WASTE-TO-ENERGY FACILITY
At the incinerator, I learned amazing things. I learned that the incinerator creates 13 megawatts of electricity per hour. The incinerator would burn trash and turn it into electricity. We got to go on a tour in the incinerator and we wear super COOL helmets and we wore AWESOME safety goggles. Next we went to the control center. In the control center there were buttons to add or take away air, fuel, and heat. There is also a button that shoots water out of two cannons in case there is an UNPREDICTABLE fire.
Fun facts: The most dangerous toxin in the incinerator is dioxin.
The incinerator is 1500 degrees when burning trash.
The turbine in the incinerator makes 5500 revolutions per second.

Letter to Mr.Bart
Dear Mr.Bart,
Thank you so much for letting us go to the Incinerator. I learned so much! For example, I never knew that the turbine in the incinerator spins 5500 REVOLUTIONS per minute. I also think it is cool that there are two red cannons that shoot water in case there is a fire. I'm glad you invited us to the incinerator. I can't wait to go back there.
Sincerely,
Ahmad

TerraCycle is a website that up-cycles things humans throw in the trash can. The TerraCycle group is trying to reduce the amount of trash on the Earths crust, and they are trying to reduce the amount of trash in Landfills, and keep the Earth a healthy planet. The TerraCycle group understands what will happen if we don't reduce the trash in Landfills. If we don't treat the earth properly we will have no place to live. TerraCycle is encouraging people to reuse, reduce, and recycle if we listen to their advice we will have a clean Earth.
TECHNOLOGY AND IT'S eFFECT ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Technology can help the environment and harm the environment. Using technology stops us from cutting down trees to make paper. Instead of figuring out answers to a problem you can use the internet. The internet has the answer to every problem and teaches us new things.
