BRYNN LOEFFLER
Journal entry #1 February 27, 2014
I wish we went on a warm day to the steelfield landfill, but i still had fun. I learned lots of cool things there! I learned that there is 140 feet of trash there. Wow! That is a lot!
In July, they had a huge rainstorm there, and most of the sand on the landfill fell! some of it stayed on because of the moltch, but most of it fell. They are still repairing the landfill. Also, when the rain storm happened, Leachate fell into the water near it. They are draining it still.

bay county waste-to-energy facility
Journal entry #2 march 6, 2014
We went to the Incinerator today. It smelled worse than the landfill, but we had fun anyways. The Incinerator is also called the Waste-To-Energy facility.
The person who showed us around was Jerome "Bart" Barthelemy, the operations manager. They are a steam-energy facility. They burn trash and make it into 13 megawatts per hour! They use 2 megawatts to run the Waste-To-Energy facility.
Also, The Incinerator burns at 1,500 degrees Fahrenheit! Wow! Even though the facility is huge, it takes only 5 people to run! I think me and my classmates had real fun. I know i did!

Trash piles at the waste-to-energy facility. This is only a small part of it!
helping the world RECYCLE.
We are recycling paper at school. why? Because we care about the earth! by recycling the paper, we are saving trees from being cut down.
A company named Redco gave us big bins for mixed paper at school. They gave them to us because since we're a school, we produce a lot of recyclable paper. so, each teacher has boxes to organize the paper. When they fill up, they go and pour them into the bigger bins so we can keep recycling. You may be asking, "Where does the recycled paper go after Redco collects it?" After Redco collects it, the paper goes to a paper mill. Then, the paper goes to a slusher, who cleans the paper and makes it new at the paper mill. Then to complete the cycle, they send the new paper as something else or new paper to a store. Then we buy the now cleaned paper.
