4th and 5th grade's field trip to the STEELFIELD LANDFILL was AWSOME! It didn't smell as bad as I thought. I learned and observed many things. One of the things that I learned and I was amazed by was that there was a mountain made out of trash! The mountain was 140ft above sea-level! Another thing I learned was that tires can be burned to generate electricity! You should go to Steelfield Landfill. You should recycle to save our planet. I enjoyed the 4th and 5th grade field trip!
QUESTIONS FOR STEELFIELD LANDFILL.
Q. WHAT DO YOU DO WITH TRASH HERE?
A. THE LANDFILL GETS THE ASH FROM BURNED TRASH FROM THE WASTE TO ENERGY PLANT INCINERATOR.THEY BURY THE ASH AT THE LANDFILL.
Q. WHO BRINGS THE ASH TO THE LANDFILL?
A. DUMP TRUCKS FROM THE INCINERATOR BRING THE TRASH TO THE LANDFILL.
Q. IS THERE A WAY WE CAN FIND A TREATMENT FOR LEACHATE LIQUID?
A. NO,WE HAVEN'T FOUND A WAY TO TREAT LEACHATE LIQUID.
Q. WHY WON'T PEOPLE RECYCLE RATHER THAN SENDING TRASH TO LANDFILLS?
A. PEOPLE THINK ITS EASIER TO THROW TRASH AWAY AND HAVE A TRUCK PICK IT UP RATHER THAN RECYCLING.

JOURNAL ENTRY #2 MAY 11, 2014 On May 7, 2014 we went on a field trip to the Science and Discovery Center in Panama City, Florida. We learned about "Artful Truth.'' Artful Truth is to demonstrate the truth about tobacco. Artful Truth inspired 5th grade from Rising Leaders Academy to paint a painting inspired by Van-Gogh. Our message is ''What is our civic responsibility to our environment." |
JOURNAL ENTRY #3: MAY 15, 2014
On May 9,2014, I went after school with the class to St.Andrews State Park for a beach clean up. We collected cigarettes butts, food wrappers, plastic bags, plastic bottles, caps, and misc.... The most we collected was cigarettes butts. There was a raccoon that thought I had food and was following me! I had lots of fun and hope to do a beach clean up again.

On May 27,2014 I did research on e-waste which is means electronic waste.Electronic waste can harm your blood, peripheral nervous system, the central, and the kidneys. E-waste causes serious heath problem and pollution problems.Did you know that 80 to 85% of electronic waste is discarded in landfills and incinerators, which can release toxic gases into the air.Another facts is that Americans dump phones containing over $60 million in gold/silver every year.Only 12.5% of e-waste is currently recycled.
