field study #1: Steelfield landfillStudents were enlightened by the field experts and astonished by the amount of incinerated waste accumulated in our community. They reflected on this experience in their student created web-based journals.
field study #2: waste-to-energy facilityStudents got a bird’s eye perspective of the amount of waste collected in Panama City. They interviewed the field experts on site, toured the facility, and gathered data. They learned where local waste comes from and how it is transformed to energy for our county.
FIELD STUDY #3: Science and discovery centerStudents were invited to participate in the Artful Truth tobacco prevention project. Students learned how deceptive graphic designs and tobacco advertisements send misleading messages to young audiences. They also learned of the harmful effects tobacco product waste has on the environment when disposed improperly. This field study inspired them to create a mural to express their thoughts and feelings on what they’ve learned about being good stewards of our earth.

FIELD STUDY #4: Beach Clean upAfter learning of the harmful effects of tobacco waste on the environment, students were motivated to conduct a beach clean-up. Students (and parents) devoted their free time after school hours to pick up trash that could harm wildlife and the environment. Students tracked the trash collected in 2 hours along the shoreline. To view and share their results, students made a graph to compare the types and amount of trash collected.
FIELD STUDY #5: gulf coast state college, Advanced technology centerStudents were guided through the ATC building. They learned how new innovations in science and technology and green landscaping can help conserve energy and resources.
